A Coming Paradigm Shift in (Online) Music?
This is a naturally unpopular but important point.  Bonus points will be awarded for saying this on a panel at a music conference. continuations: Of course one immediate question about such a new paradigm is how artists will make money.  I think it would be a grave mistake to be caught up in that question.  For starters, it seems to me that over the course of history very little of what we now...

Notes from the "Help! My iPod Thinks I'm Emo!"...
Here are some notes from my part of the talk.  Paul Lamere may share some soon too, he naturally disagrees :) WHAT IF THERE IS NO DISCOVERY ALGORITHM? Current music recommendation systems have tons of serious issues: they don’t properly incorporate long tail content, fail in offering anything close to serendipity, and get even more confused by divisive content (see the ratings for Napoleon...

Everyone Wants Something for Nothing: Last.fm's... →
Last.fm is planning to charge listeners from outside US, UK and Germany for the ability to listen to their radio streams. Naturally, this prompted a bout of angry feedback, but the bottom line is quite simple: If you actually liked the service and you are wealthy enough to stream Internet radio in any part of the world (this is a big deal), you can find €3.00/mo for the service.

Why won't Dropbox and Drop.io fail?
Like their brothers in arms from 2000? (Xdrive and the general wasteland of storage services) Other than marginal tech and usability improvements, slightly better broadband availability, what’s really different this time around in the consumer storage space? Seems like history repeating itself from the outside, though I presume those guys know things I don’t. Do you know?
