On Internet hype (not machine)
Does Internet hype destroy bands? Does it reward bands that offer immediate gratification without lasting value? Will we only hear about new bands that fit with the active Internet publishing demographic (the vocal minority)? Does TV have a surprise coming soon?
The TV industry has been spoiled by advertising revenue built on expert salesmanship and shoddy data.  As more people spend time on the incredibly trackable web, will buyers continue to accept audience, attention and demographic estimates to command massive TV ad budgets? We will find out shortly.

Very interesting to see the top 1500 blogs on Hype Machine listed as a separate group in this chart.  Though it’d be nice if their stats for Hype Machine itself were accurate, Quantcast (uses a javascript include to measure audience) say we get over 400K US uniques a month.
